Palworld Remains Buy-to-Play: Developer Quashes F2P Rumors
Following reports of discussions regarding a potential shift to a free-to-play (F2P) or Games-as-a-Service (GaaS) model, Palworld developer Pocketpair has officially confirmed that the game will remain a buy-to-play title.
In a recent statement on Twitter (X), the team explicitly stated their commitment to the current business model, clarifying that Palworld was not designed for F2P or GaaS and adapting it would be too extensive. They emphasized their dedication to prioritizing player preferences, acknowledging that a model change is not desired by the community.
While Pocketpair is still exploring the best path for Palworld's long-term growth, they've ruled out F2P/GaaS. They are currently considering future content in the form of skins and DLC to support ongoing development, promising further community discussion before implementation.
The developer apologized for any anxieties caused by earlier reports, stemming from an interview conducted several months prior. In that interview, CEO Takuro Mizobe had hinted at potential future content updates, including new Pals and raid bosses.
Separately, a potential PS5 version of Palworld was listed in preliminary announcements for the Tokyo Game Show 2024 (TGS 2024). However, it's important to note that this list, published by CESA, is not considered definitive. The official confirmation of a PS5 release remains pending.
