FFVII Remake Trilogy Coming to Switch 2, Confirms Dev

Author : Joseph Mar 18,2026

In Nintendo's latest Creator's Voice series episode, Final Fantasy Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will launch for Switch 2.

Intergrade represents the enhanced PS5 edition of 2020's PS4 title Final Fantasy VII Remake, serving as the initial installment in the remake trilogy that dramatically reimagines the beloved 1997 PS1 RPG. This upgraded version features improved graphics and lighting over the PS4 release, along with the Intermission DLC focusing on ninja Yuffie's Midgar adventures.

Currently available on PS5 and PC, Hamaguchi explained how Switch 2's technological advancements make porting possible: "The Switch 2's capabilities allow us to faithfully recreate Midgar at full specifications," he confirmed.

Play

"Players will appreciate experiencing this game handheld during their daily commute," Hamaguchi noted, highlighting how portable play facilitates easier progress sharing and discussions.

The Switch 2 version will integrate GameChat functionality for real-time voice communication and screen sharing during gameplay. "Seeing Final Fantasy VII portable excites me tremendously," Hamaguchi expressed, "We anticipate establishing a robust partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy franchise."

While only Intergrade currently has confirmation for Switch 2, Hamaguchi concluded suggestively: "We hope players anticipate experiencing the entire Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2," hinting at potential future ports for Rebirth and the trilogy's concluding chapter.

This announcement marks an intriguing homecoming - though Final Fantasy originated on Nintendo consoles, the series famously transitioned to PlayStation for Final Fantasy VII's groundbreaking 3D debut in 1997. Now, the remake appears poised to complete this cyclical journey.
