Elden Ring Nightreign: Hands-On with Raider Class - IGN

Author : Emily May 12,2025

If you're a fan of Elden Ring and enjoy dominating with strength-based, heavy-hitting weapons, then the Raider class in Nightreign is tailor-made for you. This class is all about unleashing devastating attacks and breaking through enemy defenses with sheer power.

Unlike the Guardian, which is geared towards defense with a shield and team-wide damage mitigation abilities, the Raider is designed as an offensive juggernaut. The core ability of the Raider, Retaliate, might initially seem underwhelming with its two stomps that deliver physical and poise damage. However, the true strength lies in the Raider’s passive ability, which prevents knockback during Retaliate. This means you can absorb enemy attacks without being staggered, and if you manage to soak up a significant hit, the second stomp transforms into a powerful punch capable of staggering even the mightiest foes.

The Raider's ultimate ability, Totem Stela, is a game-changer. By slamming the ground and summoning a large totem, you deal massive damage to surrounding enemies. This totem not only inflicts significant harm but also serves as a strategic point that can be climbed for safety or as a vantage point for attacks. Additionally, it boosts the damage output of your entire team, making it crucial for coordinated assaults.

Starting with the Raider’s Greataxe, which inflicts fire damage and comes equipped with the "Endure" skill for absorbing attacks, the Raider is well-prepared from the get-go. However, as you progress, upgrading to larger strength-scaling weapons will enhance your effectiveness, perfectly aligning with the Raider’s aggressive playstyle.

Among all the classes in Nightreign, the Raider stands out as my top choice for sheer enjoyment. It excels in one-on-one combat, which is reflected in its Remembrances that involve gladiatorial-style boss fights. This unique approach adds a thrilling dynamic to the gameplay, making the Raider not just a powerhouse, but also a class that brings a fresh and exciting combat experience to Nightreign.

Stay tuned throughout the month for more in-depth looks at Nightreign's mechanics, developer interviews, and more as part of IGN First's ongoing coverage.
