Dead Sails: Beginner's Guide Unveiled

Author : Evelyn May 01,2025

You thought being a ship captain was easy? The new hit game *Dead Sails* proves otherwise. Navigating the treacherous waters while balancing your survival, ship maintenance, selling valuables, and fighting off monsters is no small feat. Here's how to become a pro in *Dead Sails* and reach the 100k meters finish line swiftly.

Beginner’s Guide for Dead Sails

If you’re new to *Dead Sails*, don't fret. Much like its predecessor *Dead Rails*, the game is straightforward—your mission is to sail in a straight line, covering 10,000 meters between towns until you hit the ultimate goal of 100k meters. Keep your ship moving, avoid running out of fuel, and stay alive. Sounds simple, right?

Before You Set Sail

The in-game lobby before your adventure begins can be a valuable resource, though it comes with a cost. As a new player, you start with 15 Dabloons, the game's currency. While it's tempting to spend on boats or items like bandages and weapons, remember you'll find plenty of these during your journey. Save your Dabloons for more strategic purchases.

How To Choose A Class

Our advice? Use your 15 Dabloons to buy a class. These in-game perks are available through a loot box system, with each purchase costing 3 Dabloons. You might get lucky and snag a class you enjoy on your first try. The game features excellent Common and Uncommon classes like Pirate and Gunslinger. Your choice depends on your play style. For a detailed breakdown, check out our *Dead Sails* Class Tierlist.

What To Do In Towns

When you start a round, you'll find yourself in a town where your ship is docked. These towns appear every 10,000 meters and serve as your safe havens. Here, you can access various amenities:

  • Trading Hut: Sell collected items.
  • General Store: Buy items to aid your journey.
  • Hospital: Heal yourself.
  • Gun Shop: Purchase guns and ammunition.
  • Sheriff’s: Earn bounty money from pirate and creature corpses.

Starting with a blunt weapon like a pickaxe or hammer, there's no rush to buy a firearm immediately. Instead, prioritize buying coal—spend all your money on it. Fuel is crucial in *Dead Sails*; without it, your journey ends.

Dead Sails Tips & Tricks

While the gameplay is straightforward, you'll encounter various buildings, structures, and undead creatures along the way. Here are the key tips to master the game:

Tips For Never Running Out Of Fuel

In *Dead Sails*, coal powers your ship, adding 20% more fuel per chunk. You could theoretically complete the game by buying five coal pieces in each town, but where's the challenge in that?

When exploring off your ship, you'll find various collectibles marked as "fuel," each adding a modest 5% to your tank. However, the most efficient way to keep your ship fueled is by using the corpses of the undead you defeat. Kill them to survive, then use their bodies for fuel—it's a win-win situation.

How To Survive The Night

Like *Dead Rails*, *Dead Sails* becomes much harder at night with reduced visibility. If you die, it's game over. Ideally, spend the night in town where you're safe. If you can't, buy Barbed Wire from a shop beforehand to mount on your ship, keeping mobs at bay. Without Barbed Wire, pause your journey and attack any creature that approaches.

Which Weapon To Choose

Weapon choice is a personal preference. If you prefer melee, the starting hammer or pickaxe might suffice. However, as you face stronger enemies, you'll need more powerful weapons. A shotgun is a top choice due to its high damage, ideal for unexpected combat situations. For early-game, a revolver is a good starter firearm, often found in buildings.

Best Items To Collect

Every item you collect can be sold, but with a limited inventory of 10 items, choose wisely. Here are some key items to focus on:

  • Moyai and Bars: Available in diamond, gold, and silver, these are lucrative for earning in-game cash.
  • Healing Packs: Keep these for emergencies, though they can be sold.
  • Crosses: Sell for 35 cash or use against the undead.
  • Weapons: Use or sell as needed.
  • Robot Head: Found in houses and banks, sells for 45 cash.
  • Holy Water: Found in churches, sells for 25 cash.
  • Gold Llama: Rare and valuable, selling for 150 cash.

You can stack items on your boat but remember to weld them in place using the weld button (Z on the keyboard) to prevent them from falling off.

That's the beginner's guide to *Dead Sails*! Follow these tips, and you'll soon be the best captain to ever navigate the game's waters. For an extra edge, don't forget to check out our *Dead Sails* codes.
