Cursed Objects (also known as "Cursed Possessions") are randomly generated items in Phasmophobia, appearing on various maps depending on game mode and settings. Activation requires finding and interacting with them within the location.

Unlike standard equipment, Cursed Objects offer gameplay advantages – "cheats" – but at a cost. Locating the ghost's favorite room or boosting your team's capabilities always involves a significant drawback. Expect substantial sanity loss, temporary blindness, or unexpected "cursed" hunts.

Strategic use is crucial; sometimes, leaving them untouched is the best option. Note that Cursed Objects won't appear at all difficulty levels, and are absent in Challenge Mode.

Using a Cursed Object

Phasmophobia currently features seven Cursed Objects, each with unique abilities and debilitating effects.

A common consequence is a drastic sanity decrease for the user. Teammates should maintain distance during and after activation to minimize the risk of a "cursed hunt."

Cursed hunts mirror regular hunts but disregard sanity levels, even immediately following a standard hunt. Their extended duration (20 seconds longer) increases the challenge of escape or concealment, especially at higher difficulty levels.

The following table details each Cursed Object's mechanics:

Cursed ObjectAbility
Tarot CardsTen random cards offering buffs, debuffs, or increased ghost activity. The "Death" card, for example, triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Ouija BoardDirect communication with the ghost. Specific questions ("Hide and Seek") or shattering the board initiate a Cursed Hunt.
Haunted MirrorReveals the ghost's preferred room. Shattering the mirror triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Music BoxForces a ghost appearance when played. Prolonged use triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Summoning CircleSummons and traps the ghost. Always triggers a Cursed Hunt unless a Tier 3 Crucifix is present.
Voodoo DollForces ghost interactions via pins. Pushing the heart pin triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Monkey PawGrants wishes influencing the ghost or environment. Some wishes severely hinder the player.

The Haunted Mirror is the safest and most rewarding Cursed Object. It quickly reveals the ghost's location, optimizing equipment placement and investigation time, especially on larger maps. Limit usage to a few seconds to avoid sanity loss and triggering a Cursed Hunt.

Ouija Board

A reliable option, the Ouija Board directly pinpoints the ghost's location and even the bone's location, aiding in achieving a "Perfect Investigation."

Useful for triggering ghost interactions when evidence gathering is slow, but avoid the heart pin to prevent a Cursed Hunt.
