Skate Playtest Now Available on Consoles!
The highly anticipated skateboarding game, skate., is finally available for playtesting on Xbox and PlayStation consoles! Previously limited to PC players since mid-2022, this marks a significant step towards the game's 2025 early access release. This is the first new Skate game in over 15 years, following the release of Skate 3 in 2010.
After years of fan demand (#Skate4 trended heavily), EA finally greenlit a new Skate title, establishing a dedicated development studio. Last fall, the game's early access launch was slated for 2025. This console playtest is a positive indicator of progress towards that goal.
Access to the playtest is via the skate. Insider program, requiring registration. A recent video from the development team confirmed additional Black hairstyle options and playfully addressed the "Fall 2024" playtest announcement delay. While specific gameplay details, like the revamped replay editor, remain undisclosed, the team is clearly engaging with the community.
skate. is confirmed as a free-to-play, live-service game set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam. Inspired by various real-world and previous Skate game locations (San Vanelona and Port Carverton), the city is still under development. While a map leaked in 2023, significant changes are likely. Fans can participate in the playtest or patiently await the wider release.
Other Skate Games to Enjoy in the Meantime
While the 2025 early access date is the target, delays are always a possibility. Fortunately, several other skateboarding games are available to keep fans entertained until skate.'s official launch.
