CoD Black Ops 6 & Warzone: Understanding the Event Pass System

Since adopting a live-service model, Call of Duty has introduced numerous systems for unlocking exclusive cosmetic rewards, catering to both free and premium players. Among these, the Battle Pass – popularized by free-to-play games – has become a central feature, offering tiered rewards.

In Black Ops 6 and Warzone, a new addition is the Event Pass, designed to coincide with limited-time themed events. This system offers players an additional progression path to unlock unique cosmetics. Here’s everything you need to know about how the Event Pass works in BO6 and Warzone.

What is the Event Pass in BO6 & Warzone?

The Event Pass in Black Ops 6 and Warzone is a dynamic progression system linked to specific in-game events, offering both free and premium tiers, each with 10 individual rewards. The premium version, priced at 1,100 CoD Points – the same as the base Battle Pass – provides additional exclusive rewards. Each reward aligns with the event’s theme, as seen in its debut during the Squid Game collaboration, where players could unlock cosmetics inspired by the popular Netflix series.

Functionally, the Event Pass operates similarly to other progression systems, requiring players to earn XP to unlock rewards. Completing all tiers grants a Mastery Reward, which is usually a new weapon or exclusive Operator. Unlike previous systems, which relied on in-game challenges or community objectives, the Event Pass introduces a streamlined method for unlocking rewards. It’s particularly appealing for players aiming to fully engage with thematic events and maximize their content collection.

To optimize your progress during an Event Pass, be sure to leverage Double XP Weekends or activate Double XP Tokens, which effectively double the experience points you earn per match. Pair this with playing fast-paced game modes and smaller maps, as they encourage higher kill counts, getting scorestreaks, and completing objectives, all of which significantly boost your XP gain.

Is BO6 & Warzone Premium Event Pass Worth It?

The Event Pass Premium can be a worthwhile investment for players who regularly complete the Battle Pass and are comfortable spending extra money on in-game content. While the free version offers a selection of rewards, completing it first allows you to evaluate whether upgrading to the premium version for 1,100 CoD Points is worth it – especially if you’ve already invested in the Battle Pass or store bundles.

The rewards in the Event Pass are cosmetic and non-essential for enjoying the game. Deciding to purchase it depends on how much you value exclusive event-related content. If you’re a collector or enjoy unlocking everything an event has to offer, it might be a good choice. On the other hand, if you rarely finish the Battle Pass or prefer using your CoD Points on store bundles, saving them might be more practical.

The launch of the Event Pass Premium sparked controversy due to its additional 1,100 CoD Points price tag, which comes on top of the cost of the Battle Pass and other premium content like store bundles priced at 2,400 and 3,000 CoD Points. Additionally, since the Event Pass is tied to exclusive collaborations like with Squid Game, much of the event’s most appealing content ends up locked behind paywalls. Operators inspired by series characters are available exclusively through premium bundles or the Event Pass Premium system, leaving limited opportunities for free-to-play players to access these characters and fully engage with the collaboration.

Ultimately, before purchasing the Premium version of the Event Pass, consider whether a specific reward inside is worth the equivalent of $10 / £8.39 or if you’d prefer to allocate that money to other content in Black Ops 6, Warzone, or even a different game.
