Borderlands 4: Ample Content and a Fresh Trailer
A Highly Ambitious Endgame in Store

In the lead-up to its release, Gearbox Software has shared numerous insights into Borderlands 4's gameplay mechanics and story universe. Their latest announcement highlights a particularly ambitious endgame. Creative Director Graeme Timmins elaborated on the title's post-story offerings in a July 7 interview with Game Informer.
Timmins, who played a key role in developing Borderlands 3's endgame, mentioned the team is building upon foundations from previous games. He expressed confidence in meeting community expectations, noting that many desired features are already integrated.
"Endgame planning for Borderlands 4 started very early in development. We have exciting strategies to reveal, and we're applying lessons learned from both Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and the Borderlands series to deliver the franchise's most refined endgame experience," Timmins stated.
Community Builds Skill Planner, Though Skills Remain Flexible
In addition to the promising endgame, player excitement is evident as fans have developed a skill tree planner months ahead of launch. On July 7, Twitter (X) user Byrd, in collaboration with Maxroll.gg, released a skill planner for the playable Vault Hunters Vex and Rafa.
However, Timmins responded to the post with a reminder that all game elements are still in flux. He commented, "This is an incredible tool! Just a friendly reminder that development is ongoing, and all skills are SUBJECT TO CHANGE :) We're still fine-tuning character balance, so the builds from demos may differ at launch."
"Welcome to Kairos" Trailer Unveils New Setting Details
The second installment in the BEYOND THE BORDERLANDS series, "Welcome to Kairos," introduces players to the prison planet Kairos. This 7-minute video, released on July 8, delves deeper into the game's environment, showcasing new factions, their leaders and commanders, and the origin story of the main protagonist, the Time Keeper.
With the Time Keeper imposing a dictatorial rule over the planet, Vault Hunters must unite various factions to overthrow his regime. These groups include The Outbounders, The Augurs, The Electi, The Ripper Queen, and Idolater Sol of the Fadefields. Each faction operates with its own motivations, and players must persuade them to ally with the Crimson Resistance against the oppressive ruler.

Regarding the creation of the primary antagonist, Managing Director of Narrative Lin Joyce explained that the team studied past series villains to ensure the Time Keeper would be distinct. Narrative Director Sam Winkler added that they aimed for a villain who projects a constant aura of menace, wielding control effortlessly. He said, "Our goal was to introduce a new type of antagonist for the franchise—one who feels ever-present without becoming tedious."
Joyce further detailed the game's expansive world, mentioning the return of fan-requested elements and the title's accessibility for both veterans and newcomers. "This installment marks a pivotal moment in our universe. It honors connections to earlier games while charting a new course, making it an essential experience," she elaborated.
With Gearbox pushing innovation by removing loading screens and enhancing the weapon system, Borderlands 4 is poised to become the series' flagship title. The game launches on September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. For the latest updates, explore our related article below.
