Atelier Yumia: Guide to Memory Alchemy and Land Synthesis

Author : Christopher May 03,2025

One of the most intricate elements of *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is the Synthesis mechanic, which is central to nearly every aspect of the game. From the resources you gather to the weapons you craft, everything revolves around it. Here's how to maximize its potential.

Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia

In *Atelier Yumia*, you'll encounter three distinct types of Synthesis:

  • Regular Synthesis: This is performed at an Alchemist’s altar and is essential for crafting weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and materials needed for other Synthesis.
  • Simple Synthesis: Accessible through the radial menu outside of battle, this allows you to craft items like bandages, gauntlets for ziplines, and repair kits for treasure chests, ladders, and more, as long as you have the necessary resources.
  • Building Synthesis: Though not explicitly called Synthesis, it's accessed via the radial menu in specific areas. Here, Yumia can create storage chests and wall hangings, which the story often refers to as Synthesis.

At the start of the game, you unlock the Atelier, which you can revisit anytime to perform regular Synthesis. In areas where building is possible, such as cleared manabound zones and campsites, you can construct a Simple Altar to conduct regular Synthesis.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia

Synthesis in Atelier Yumia.

The regular Synthesis at altars is the most complex. To craft, for instance, a gun staff for Yumia, you must first discover the recipe while exploring. You can also enhance existing recipes at a Recipe Recall Station using particles from mana fountains. Here’s the process at an Alchemist’s altar:

  1. Choose the gun staff type you want to create.
  2. Select Synthesis Skills if they're unlocked in the skill tree.
  3. Choose the initial Alchemy Core to build upon:
    • Effects Alchemy Core boosts the selected skills.
    • Quality Alchemy Core enhances the item's quality level.
    • Trait Alchemy Core increases the number of Trait Crystal slots you can use.
  4. Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with your collected resources.
  5. Collect mana fragments to further enhance the item's quality.
  6. Finalize the process to Synthesize the item.

To craft powerful items early in the game, unlock Synthesis Skills from the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills provide boosts to damage and quality, and allow you to duplicate items, saving resources.

To increase item quality, add resources to all three Alchemy Cores. Use the left or right bumper to switch between cores while filling slots. Collecting mana fragments (yellow sparkles) around all three cores significantly enhances the item's strength, which is advisable unless crafting a quest item.

When choosing resources, match them to the element type of specific slots, identifiable by a blue outline. Organize your resources in the submenu to prioritize higher-quality items, though you might want to focus on effects instead.

If the detailed Synthesis process feels overwhelming, opt for the auto-Synthesis option after selecting your Synthesis Skills. The game excels at crafting the best possible item, enabling you to tackle the final boss on Normal difficulty with relative ease.

That covers everything you need to know to master the Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia*.
