Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Reportedly Exits BioWare

Author : Grace Mar 17,2025

Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly leaving BioWare, an EA-owned studio. Eurogamer reports her departure, expected in the coming weeks, follows the game's launch last October. While questions remain about The Veilguard's commercial success, Eurogamer states Busche's exit is unrelated to its performance. EA is yet to comment on sales figures, with Q3 2025 financial results expected February 4th. BioWare has confirmed no DLC is planned for The Veilguard, shifting focus to Mass Effect 5.

Busche joined BioWare in 2019 from Maxis, contributing to The Sims franchise. Her directorship on The Veilguard was crucial in navigating the game's final development stages, a journey detailed in IGN's article, "How BioWare Finally Got Dragon Age to the Finish Line After a Tumultuous Decade," which highlights a significant development reset. The game's evolution from a multiplayer concept to a single-player RPG is a testament to the team's resilience.

Busche's departure follows a period of change at BioWare. August 2023 saw approximately 50 layoffs, including veteran staff like narrative designer Mary Kirby. These reductions coincided with an EA internal restructuring and rumors of potential acquisition. The decision to transition Star Wars: The Old Republic to a third-party publisher seemingly aimed to streamline BioWare's focus on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The unveiling of Dragon Age: The Veilguard in 2024 initially faced negative reactions, prompting a rapid release of gameplay footage to address fan concerns. The name change from Dreadwolf also drew criticism. Despite initial setbacks, later impressions of the game were generally positive.

The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain. Whether BioWare will receive the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard is now a question for fans.
