Bungie to Reveal Marathon Gameplay in Upcoming Livestream

Author : Daniel Jun 03,2025

If you’re a fan of Bungie, get ready for some exciting news! The studio is set to unveil more details about its highly anticipated PvP extraction shooter, Marathon, during an all-new gameplay livestream this Saturday, April 12th (or Sunday, April 13th depending on your location).

Last week, Bungie teased the reveal with a cryptic tweet featuring a 15-second video that sent fans into detective mode as part of an extensive alternative reality game. Players quickly noticed hidden clues within the ASCII art, referencing snippets from the original trailer and even spotting a runner sprinting through a hallway—a nod to the game's eerie atmosphere. One commenter joked, "WHEN WILL HE RETURN ERROR ERROR ERROR HAS OCCURRED THE ENEMY RETURNED SYSTEM WARNING: PROTOCOL BREACH EVACUATE THE BASE IMMEDIATELY ALL UNITS REPORT TO STATION INITIATE EMERGENCY PROTOCOL 7 DATA LOSS IMMINENT GOOD LUCK, COMMANDER."

The global community came together to crack the code, ultimately uncovering the exact livestream date and time. For those tuning in, the event will kick off at 10 AM PDT (San Francisco), 1 PM EDT (New York), 6 PM BST (London), 7 PM CEST (Berlin/Paris), and 9 PM GST (Dubai). On Sunday morning, viewers in Japan will catch the stream at 2 AM JST, followed by 3 AM AEST in Sydney and 5 PM NZST in Auckland.

Marathon made headlines last year when Bungie announced it as a reboot of their iconic franchise, blending mystery, eeriness, and psychological horror. Set on the enigmatic planet Tau Ceti IV, players will embody Runners—cybernetic mercenaries designed to endure the planet’s extreme conditions. As you explore the abandoned colony, you’ll hunt for valuable loot, including new weapons and gear.

While anticipation has been building since the initial announcement in May 2023, updates have been sparse. A development video released in October offered glimpses into the game’s mechanics, but the studio emphasized its early stage of production. Meanwhile, Sony recently shifted its strategy away from live-service games following the cancellation of Concord and The Last of Us’s multiplayer project.

Despite these changes, Bungie faced its own challenges. In July 2024, the studio cut 220 employees—a staggering 17% of its workforce—just months after laying off another 100 staff. Around the same time, former Marathon director Chris Barrett was reportedly let go amid an internal misconduct investigation. Barrett later filed a lawsuit against Sony Interactive Entertainment and Bungie, seeking over $200 million in damages.

To join the excitement, mark your calendars for the Marathon livestream on April 12th. Head over to the official Marathon Twitch channel to catch the reveal live.
