Saber Interactive confirms a DRM-free launch for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, eliminating concerns about performance-impacting digital rights management software. This decision follows player feedback regarding the negative effects DRM can have on gameplay.
Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2: A DRM-Free Experience
No Microtransactions, Just Cosmetics
In a recent FAQ, Saber Interactive clarified that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, launching September 9th, will be free of DRM like Denuvo. While DRM is commonly used to combat piracy, its impact on performance is a frequent point of contention among gamers. Past incidents, such as Enigma DRM's issues with Monster Hunter Rise, highlight these potential problems.
While the game eschews DRM, it will utilize Easy Anti-Cheat on PC. Easy Anti-Cheat has faced scrutiny in the past, notably during a hacking incident at the ALGS 2024 tournament.
The absence of planned official mod support might disappoint some, but the game offers a PvP arena, horde mode, and a comprehensive photo mode to compensate. Saber Interactive assures players that all core gameplay is free, with microtransactions and DLC strictly limited to cosmetic items.
