In *Atomfall*, upgrading your weapons not only enhances their stats but also gives them a sleek new skin and can unlock the coveted ‘Make do and mend’ trophy. Here’s your guide to mastering weapon upgrades in *Atomfall*.
How to Unlock the Gunsmithing Skill in Atomfall
To unlock the crafting recipes for upgraded weapons in *Atomfall*, you must first acquire the Gunsmithing skill. This essential survival skill can be learned by reading the Crafting Manual, which can be a bit of a treasure hunt to find. Fortunately, there's a straightforward way to secure it.
Morris Wick at the Village Shop in Wyndham holds a copy of the Crafting Manual, but acquiring it isn’t as simple as a straightforward trade. You’ll need to engage in some strategic blackmail and bartering. Upon entering St. Katherine’s Church, you'll uncover a recent murder of Maisie, and the Vicar is keen on keeping it quiet. Further investigation will lead you to evidence implicating Morris in the crime.
The crucial evidence is hidden in the Brewery Cellar at coordinates 30.5 E, 80.5 N in the west of Wyndham Village. Enter through the cellar door near the ruined building and search for the note titled “Kill the One They Call Maisie”. Once you’ve secured the note, return to Morris’ Village Shop at 33.3 E, 79.9 N. Engage in dialogue that pressures Morris without outright threats until you reach the “Bargaining” option. Selecting this will compel Morris to hand over the Crafting Manual in exchange for your silence.
Alternatively, the Crafting Manual can be found in the D Section of The Interchange, though this method is more challenging and time-consuming.
After obtaining and reading the Crafting Manual, you’ll need to spend 7 Training Stimulants to unlock the Gunsmith skill, which grants you access to the recipes for crafting upgraded weapons. This investment is well worth it, so make sure to scour B.A.R.D. structures like Bunkers and The Interchange for the necessary Training Stimulants.
How To Craft Weapon Upgrades in Atomfall
With the Crafting Manual and Gunsmith skill in hand, you’re ready to craft weapon upgrades. Upon acquiring a weapon, you’ll unlock the recipe to craft its next highest tier, progressing from Rusty to Stock, and finally to Pristine. To upgrade a weapon, you’ll need two of the same weapon from the previous tier, along with specific amounts of Gun Oil and Scrap, which can vary.
For instance, upgrading the Falkirk Battle Rifle to Pristine requires 2 Falkirk Battle Rifle (Stock) items, 3 Gun Oil, and 6 Scrap. These materials are commonly found at military installations like Protocol Camps. If you’re planning on frequent upgrades, consider investing in the Deep Pockets survival skill to increase your capacity for crafting supplies.
When you successfully upgrade a weapon to Pristine for the first time, you’ll earn the ‘Make do and mend’ Achievement or Trophy.
