In Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, players exploring The Zone will stumble upon various NPCs, triggering quests ranging from minor tasks to substantial side missions like "For Science!". This mission involves Skif meeting Yaryk Mongoose, who will then instruct the player to activate a second measuring device atop a silo. While brief, this quest rewards players with a Malachite pass, granting access to the STC Malachite facilities.
Initiating the "For Science!" Side Quest:
To begin "For Science!", locate Yaryk Mongoose within the Central Elevator area of the Chemical Plant. Approaching this location will trigger a radio call from Mongoose to Skif, prompting a meeting.
Upon entering the Central Elevator, proceed left, past the conveyor belts, and ascend the rusted stairs. Mongoose is on the first floor; simply vault the railing to reach him and initiate the conversation.
Mongoose possesses a measuring device and explains the need to activate a second device located atop a nearby silo. Activating both simultaneously is the quest objective. Accepting Mongoose's request officially starts the "For Science!" side mission.
Reaching the Silo's Summit:
After the conversation, climb the building's stairs to the roof. Eliminate any rodents encountered. Enter the room with broken windows, climb out, and descend the external ladder to the silo walkway.
Jump to the connecting silo walkway, equipping a bolt-action weapon to counter the electro anomalies. Proceed left along the silo's top to locate and activate the second measuring device.
Activating the device attracts a Bloodsucker horde. Choose to eliminate them or evade them to reach Mongoose.
The Confrontation with Yaryk Mongoose:
Approaching Mongoose, he'll explain the experiment's unintended consequences. Players can choose to kill Mongoose for endangering Skif or accept the reward and depart. Neither choice has significant repercussions. Killing Mongoose allows looting the Malachite pass from his corpse.
However, opting for the non-hostile approach yields both the Malachite Pass and coupons. This pass provides access to the STC Malachite base, unless already accessible through the main storyline.
