According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel an unannounced paid DLC for the highly popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to be released this year, coinciding with the launch of a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came this week due to concerns that the content of the DLC was not substantial enough to justify the proposed price, as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. did not provide a comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.
This cancellation comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, which has been grappling with financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company also canceled its planned Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio behind it, Monolith Productions, along with WB San Diego and MultiVersus developer Player First Games. Additionally, there were layoffs at Rocksteady Studios just last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has declared that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is among its top priorities, as it shifts focus towards developing fewer but larger franchises. This strategic move follows the impressive sales of the original game, which has exceeded 30 million copies sold.
