Mountaintop Studios, developers of the newly released FPS, Spectre Divide, have swiftly addressed player concerns regarding high in-game skin and bundle prices. A price reduction and partial refund were announced mere hours after launch.
Price Cuts and Refunds
Following significant player backlash, Spectre Divide implemented a 17-25% price reduction across weapons and outfits. Game director Lee Horn confirmed this adjustment, stating, "We've heard your feedback and we're making changes." To compensate players who purchased items at the original price, Mountaintop Studios is issuing a 30% SP (in-game currency) refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP.
This refund extends to those who bought the Founder's or Supporter packs and subsequently purchased additional items at the now-reduced prices. However, the pricing for Starter packs, Sponsorships, and Endorsement upgrades will remain unchanged.
Mixed Reactions and Future Outlook
While some players welcomed the price adjustments and the refund initiative, the response has been far from universally positive. Spectre Divide's Steam rating currently sits at 49% Negative, reflecting the initial negative reception. Social media discussions reveal a range of opinions, with some praising the developer's responsiveness while others remain critical, questioning the timing of the changes and expressing concerns about the game's long-term viability in a competitive free-to-play market. Suggestions for further improvements, such as the ability to purchase individual items from bundles, have also been voiced. The future success of Spectre Divide will likely depend on Mountaintop Studios' continued engagement with player feedback and their ability to address ongoing concerns.
