EA's eagerly awaited Skate reboot will mandate a persistent internet connection during gameplay.
In a revised FAQ post, developer Full Circle clarified: "No offline mode will be available." They explained, "We've built this as a dynamic, multiplayer skateboarding universe that continuously evolves. Expect everything from city-wide transformations to live events and seasonal content."
This connectivity requirement prevents offline play entirely—even solo sessions demand an active link. Full Circle maintains this design is essential for realizing their vision of "a living skateboarding ecosystem that requires constant online access."
"Playtest participants won't find this surprising," developers noted.
The decision follows September 2024's Always-On Playtest initiative, where the team evaluated the game in a 24/7 live server environment.
While targeting a 2025 early access release, Skate remains undated since its 2020 EA Play announcement (labeled "pre-alpha" then). Full Circle has progressively engaged players through exclusive build testing and recently introduced microtransactions.
Players can purchase San Van Bucks—virtual currency for cosmetic upgrades. Developers emphasized optimizing the store experience, stating: "We want transactions to feel rewarding when acquiring Skate shop items."
"Though unusual during testing, real-money purchases help refine our systems pre-launch," the team clarified. "Expect pricing adjustments during this phase. All test expenditures will be reimbursed as San Van Bucks when Early Access begins."
