Alleged Leaks Surface for the Upcoming Jet Set Radio Remake
Rumors of a Jet Set Radio remake, confirmed by Sega last December as part of a broader initiative to revitalize classic titles, have intensified with the alleged online leak of in-game images. Sega has remained tight-lipped since the initial announcement at the 2023 Game Awards, but leaker Midori (who has since deleted their social media presence) has reportedly offered periodic updates on the project, alongside details about other Sega remakes such as Crazy Taxi, Virtua Fighter, and Golden Axe. Midori previously indicated separate plans for both a reboot (a live-service game with live events and customization) and a remake (lacking these features).
Twitter user MSKAZZY69, citing Midori as the source, shared four screenshots purportedly from the remake's development build. These images include map views and gameplay snapshots. MSKAZZY69 further described the game as a "complete remake of the original, totally separate from the new one," characterizing it as an "open-world remake." This aligns with Midori's earlier claims of graffiti mechanics, shooting elements, and an expanded open world with new areas and storyline.
The authenticity of these images, however, remains uncertain due to Midori's withdrawal from social media. Adding to the speculation, a YouTube video showcasing alleged gameplay footage emerged, displaying a visual style consistent with the leaked screenshots. The footage features updated, more realistic character and environment designs, and depicts protagonist Beat engaging in graffiti art, skateboarding tricks, and exploration of Tokyo locales.
Despite the leaked assets, the Jet Set Radio remake's release is still projected to be several years away, with a 2026 launch at the earliest. While the leaked material has undeniably generated excitement among fans, the lack of official confirmation from Sega means that all information, including reports from Midori and other sources, should be treated cautiously. Sega's apparent commitment to reviving its classic catalog extends beyond Jet Set Radio, with remakes of Alex Kidd, House of the Dead, and other titles reportedly in development. Until Sega provides official confirmation and footage, however, any further updates remain speculative.
