Pokémon TCG Vending Machines: A Guide for Trainers

Pokémon fans are buzzing about the increasingly common Pokémon vending machines popping up across the US. These aren't your average snack dispensers; they offer a curated selection of Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) products. This guide will answer your burning questions.

What are Pokémon Vending Machines?

These automated machines offer a convenient way to purchase Pokémon TCG merchandise, similar to buying a drink, though perhaps not quite as budget-friendly. While various types have existed, the current US focus is on TCG-centric models initially tested in Washington in 2017. Their success has led to wider deployment in grocery stores nationwide.

The machines are easily recognizable with their vibrant colors and clear Pokémon branding. Their user-friendly touch screen interface allows for easy browsing and selection of TCG items, with payment via credit card. The checkout process even includes charming Pokémon animations. Digital receipts are emailed to customers, but returns are not accepted.

What do they sell?

Primarily, these vending machines stock Pokémon TCG products like Elite Trainer Boxes, Booster Packs, and related items. While stock varies, a recent check found a good selection even during a busy shopping period, although the newest Elite Trainer Boxes were sold out. Unlike some Pokémon Center machines in Washington State (which are becoming less common), these generally don't sell plushies, apparel, or video games.

How to find one near you

A comprehensive list of active Pokémon TCG vending machines in the US is available on the official Pokémon Center website. Currently, machines are located in: Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin. The website allows you to filter by state to find nearby locations within partner grocery stores, including Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Fry's, Kroger, Pick 'n Save, Safeway, Smith's, and Tom Thumb. Note that distribution isn't uniform; machines tend to be concentrated in specific cities within each state. You can also follow the Pokémon Center's location list for updates on new machine installations.
