Pearl Abyss Rejects PS5 Exclusivity Deal for Crimson Desert, Opting for Independent Publishing
Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure game Crimson Desert, has reportedly declined a PlayStation exclusivity deal with Sony. The decision to self-publish the title was confirmed in a statement to Eurogamer, reiterating their previous announcement during a quarterly earnings call. While appreciating their business partners and ongoing collaborations, Pearl Abyss emphasized their commitment to independent publishing, citing its projected high profitability.
Crimson Desert: Release Date and Platforms Still Unconfirmed
Despite speculation fueled by a September investor meeting revealing Sony's attempted exclusivity deal (which would have temporarily excluded Xbox), Pearl Abyss maintains that no release date has been set. They clarified that current articles regarding release dates are purely speculative. The developer plans to unveil a playable build to media this week in Paris, followed by a public demonstration at G-Star in November.
While a definitive platform list remains unannounced, a PC, PlayStation, and Xbox release is anticipated around Q2 2025.
