Path of Exile 2 Expeditions: A Comprehensive Guide
Path of Exile 2 introduces Expeditions, a revamped endgame event from previous leagues. This guide covers Expedition mechanics, rewards, and the passive skill tree. Four endgame events exist in PoE 2's Atlas: Delirium, Breaches, Rituals, and Expeditions.
Expedition Mechanics: Unveiling the Secrets
Expeditions are identified on the Atlas by a light blue spiral icon. An Expedition Precursor Tablet placed in a completed Lost Tower slot guarantees an Expedition encounter.
Upon entering an Expedition map, locate the central Detonator and four NPCs. The core gameplay involves strategically placing Explosives near Markers to spawn enemies and chests:
- Red Markers: Detonating near these spawns Runic Monsters. Larger markers yield larger packs. These monsters are further empowered by Unearthed Remnants.
- Unearthed Remnants: These relics provide beneficial or detrimental modifiers (e.g., increased monster elemental damage for better loot rarity).
- Black Markers (Spiral Icon): Detonating near these spawns Excavated Chests containing Artifacts, Logbooks, currency, and high-end gear.
The Explosives UI shows the AoE. Avoid overlapping AoE circles for optimal resource utilization. After placing Explosives, activate the Detonator. You can leave the area after detonation and return later to engage enemies.
Conquering the Expedition Pinnacle Map
Runic Monsters and Excavated Chests have a chance to drop Expedition Logbooks. Use these at Dannig's Hideout to access the Expedition Pinnacle Map – a significantly larger Expedition with triple the Explosives.
This map features Olroth, a Pinnacle Boss (indicated by a skull on the minimap). Defeating Olroth grants double Expedition Passive Skill Tree points.
Mastering the Expedition Passive Skill Tree
Located in the Atlas Passive Skill Tree, the Expedition Passive Skill Tree enhances Expedition rewards and difficulty. It features eight Notable nodes and eight difficulty-increasing nodes for Logbooks.
Each Olroth defeat grants double points, necessitating increased difficulty for each new Notable node. Prioritize nodes like "Disturbed Rest," "Detailed Records," and "Timed Detonations" for significant reward boosts. Later, consider "Weight of History," "Unearthed Anomalies," and "Legendary Battles" for further, but riskier, gains. Avoid "Extreme Archaeology" due to its significant reduction in Explosives.
Expedition Rewards: Amassing Wealth and Power
Expeditions primarily reward Artifacts, used to trade with specific vendors for gear:
Reward | Use | Gear |
---|---|---|
Broken Circle Artifact | Gwennen | Weapons |
Black Scythe Artifact | Tujen | Belts & Jewelry |
Order Artifact | Rog | Armor |
Sun Artifact | Dannig | Various |
Exotic Coinage | Vendor Refresh | N/A |
Artifacts remain after map completion. Exotic Coinage refreshes vendor inventories.
Expedition Logbooks unlock Pinnacle Maps with a chance to encounter Olroth, yielding substantial rewards and more Passive Skill Tree points.
