Nintendo Switch 2: Official Reveal Expected This Thursday
A reputable leaker, NateTheHate, claims the Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially unveiled on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. This aligns with Nintendo's past practice of making major announcements on Thursdays – mirroring the original Switch reveal in 2016. The Verge's Tom Warren independently corroborated this information. An early 2025 announcement strongly suggests a first-half 2025 release.
The Switch 2's existence has been widely anticipated, with mass production reportedly beginning in late September or early October 2024. Numerous hardware leaks have further fueled speculation. Nintendo itself previously committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025.
Extensive Leaks Precede Official Announcement
While a pre-announcement teaser on social media, similar to the original Switch launch, is possible, the sheer volume of leaked information makes a surprise reveal unlikely. The extent of these leaks is significant; Nintendo even addressed a Switch 2 replica, a rare acknowledgement of product leaks.
Rumors suggest a slightly larger console than the Switch OLED model (approximately 270 x 116 x 14mm) with an 8-inch LCD screen. Magnetically attaching Joy-Cons are anticipated, with the right Joy-Con potentially featuring a new "C" button below the home button. The function of this button remains unclear, but it might relate to a rumored mouse-like pointer function.
Launch Titles Remain Unconfirmed
Unlike the hardware specifics, the Switch 2's launch game lineup remains largely unknown. While titles like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario are confirmed, neither is expected as a day-one release if the console launches in the first half of 2025. Nintendo is likely to feature at least one or two major first-party titles at launch to drive initial sales.
