"Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Halves Charging Time"

Author : Logan May 04,2025

Gamers, get ready for a significant upgrade with the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. As reported by Nintendo Life, Nintendo has recently unveiled the tech specs for their new and improved $84.99 Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the news is exciting. You'll be able to fully charge your new controller in just about three-and-a-half hours when using the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter or USB-C charging cable. This is nearly half the time it takes to charge the original Pro Controller, which requires six hours.

The best part? This faster charging time doesn't compromise the controller's impressive battery life. The Switch 2 Pro Controller maintains the fantastic 40-hour battery life of its predecessor. Additionally, it introduces the new C button and two additional GL/GR buttons on the underside, making it a bit lighter and smaller than the original model.

If you're attached to your original controller, there's good news: Nintendo has confirmed that the original controller will be compatible with the new console system. This means you won't have to give up your favorite gear when you upgrade.

Nintendo officially introduced the Switch 2 in a 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month. While pre-orders were initially planned to open in early April in the U.S., due to tariff-related uncertainties, Nintendo had to delay the pre-order date to April 24. During this delay, they confirmed that the $449.99 price for the Switch 2 console and games would remain unchanged. However, there was a price increase on most Switch 2 accessories, with the Switch 2 Pro Controller going from $80 to $85.
