Nintendo has clarified that the physical versions of Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games will include both the original game and its upgrade on the same game card, dispelling any confusion caused by earlier reports. These games are exclusively designed for the Nintendo Switch 2 and do not require a download code. However, Nintendo also noted that some publishers might opt to release Switch 2 Edition games as download codes within physical packaging, without an actual game card.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games, priced at $79.99, include titles such as Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World, Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. These editions offer enhanced features over their original Switch versions. For instance, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom now support the Zelda Notes service within the Nintendo Switch App, providing additional game help, along with achievements on the Switch 2.

Nintendo has also introduced a new type of product for the Switch 2: game-key cards. These are physical cards that do not contain game data but instead provide a key for downloading the game. These cards will be clearly labeled on the front of the box to ensure consumers are aware of what they are purchasing. Games like Street Fighter 6 and the Bravely Default remaster use this system, while others such as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza come with the full game on the card. Notably, Cyberpunk 2077, with its substantial 64 GB size, is available on a game card for the Nintendo Switch 2.
