Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks: "Not Official"
Following the emergence of Switch 2 images at CES 2025, courtesy of accessory maker Genki, Nintendo issued a rare public statement. A company representative confirmed that the circulating images are not official Nintendo materials, citing their absence from the event. This marks an unusual response from Nintendo regarding product leaks.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of its entry into mass production. Genki's display of a purported Switch 2 replica at CES fueled further speculation.
Nintendo's statement, given to the Sankei Shimbun, simply declared the images "not official," emphasizing their non-participation in CES 2025. However, the company offered no opinion on the replica's accuracy.
Despite the official denial, Genki's replica aligns with existing leaks and rumors. The most noticeable differences from the original Switch include a slightly larger size and an additional button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with an unknown function.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to clarify the "C" button's purpose, shared additional details, suggesting magnetic Joy-Con attachment and potential mouse functionality for the controllers – claims corroborated by previous reports.
Nintendo previously stated intentions to reveal the Switch successor during fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail launch is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point of $399.
