NieR: Automata - Acquire the Elusive Filler Metal

Obtaining Filler Metal in NieR: Automata: A Comprehensive Guide

Acquiring upgrade materials in NieR: Automata can be challenging. While many drop from enemies, some, like Filler Metal, are randomly spawned in specific areas. This guide details how to find and purchase Filler Metal.

Locating Filler Metal in the Factory

Filler Metal is a rare item found in various locations within the Factory area. Its spawn points are unpredictable, making farming it a lengthy process. The probability of finding it is low compared to other items.

For efficient searching, utilize the "Factory: Hanger" access point for fast travel after unlocking it during the main storyline. This provides a convenient starting point deep within the Factory. Note that you may need to unlock this access point again depending on your story progress.

While movement speed boosts can help, reliably farming Filler Metal remains difficult. The most effective approach is to thoroughly explore the Factory, collecting all naturally spawned items. However, a more reliable, albeit expensive, alternative exists.

Purchasing Filler Metal in the Amusement Park

Filler Metal can only be purchased from the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park. This option unlocks only after completing all three playthroughs and obtaining one of the final endings. Accessing the Shopkeeper via Chapter Select after completing the game will reveal Filler Metal in its inventory, priced at 11,250 G each.

Despite the high cost, buying Filler Metal is significantly more reliable than repeatedly scouring the Factory. Considering the necessity of Filler Metal for crucial Pod upgrades to overcome high-level enemies, this method is arguably the most practical late-game solution.
