Monopoly Movie Screenplay by Dungeons & Dragons Writers

Author : Aaron May 04,2025

The upcoming Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has taken a significant step forward with the announcement that John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the creative minds behind Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, will be penning the screenplay. This exciting news was shared today, marking a fresh start for the film adaptation of Hasbro's iconic board game.

The project is set to be produced by Margot Robbie under her production banner, LuckyChap, adding another high-profile name to the mix. Daley and Goldstein bring a wealth of experience to the table, having not only directed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves but also having written and directed their original film, Mayday. Their writing credits extend to major films like The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming, showcasing their versatility and skill in crafting engaging narratives.

The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been long and winding. Discussions about a Monopoly film date back to 2007 when Ridley Scott showed interest in directing. In 2011, Scott enlisted Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to write the script, but that project never materialized. Subsequent attempts in 2015 saw Lionsgate and Hasbro collaborating on a version penned by Andrew Niccol, followed by reports in 2019 that Kevin Hart and director Tim Story were set to be involved. However, none of these efforts came to fruition.

The current push for the Monopoly movie gained momentum following Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro, reigniting hopes for a successful adaptation. With Daley and Goldstein at the helm of the screenplay, and Margot Robbie's involvement as a producer, there's renewed optimism that this version of the film will not only pass Go but also captivate audiences worldwide.
