MK1: Homelander and Omni-Man to Feature Unique Movesets

In an engaging interview at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon shed light on how the upcoming game, Mortal Kombat 1, will handle the iconic characters Omni-Man and Homelander. Boon emphasized the team's commitment to ensuring that these two powerful figures will offer distinct gameplay experiences, addressing fans' concerns about potential similarities in their combat styles.

Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently

During the IGN interview, Boon explained that the developers at NetherRealm Studios have been given the creative freedom to explore various ideas for these characters. However, they are keen on avoiding any overlap in their abilities, particularly steering clear of duplicating Superman-esque powers. Boon stated, "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that."

Boon further elaborated on how the team has drawn inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to craft unique Fatalities for each character. He assured fans that the main attacks and overall gameplay mechanics will significantly differentiate Homelander and Omni-Man, dispelling any notions that they might be mere clones of each other. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon remarked.
