MageTrain is a quirky combination of Snake and roguelikes, coming soon on Android and iOS

Author : Zoe Mar 21,2025

Assemble a magical battalion of mages, conquer eight dungeons, and battle 28 unique enemy types in MageTrain, a free-to-play mobile roguelike launching next month on iOS and Android. Developed by Tidepool Games, this innovative twist on classic Snake gameplay blends auto-battler mechanics with strategic positioning for a surprisingly deep experience. Pre-orders are open now!

Inspired by Nimble Quest, MageTrain expands on the concept of a growing hero chain, adding more characters, dungeons, and a significantly enhanced skill system. Guide your magical train through enemy-filled arenas, strategically positioning your nine unlockable heroes to maximize their attacks and avoid deadly collisions. Each hero boasts unique abilities that shift based on their position in the train—some excel at leading the charge, while others offer crucial support from the rear. Experiment with 30 distinct skills to create powerful team synergies.

MageTrain's roguelike structure, reminiscent of Slay the Spire and FTL, features a path-based system with randomized challenges. Collect gold, power-ups, and upgrades to refine your strategy with each run. Every playthrough feels fresh and challenging, offering endless replayability.

Strategic positioning is paramount. While your heroes auto-attack, you must skillfully maneuver your ever-growing train to evade hazards and optimize your battle formations. The longer your run, the stronger your heroes become, but one wrong move can end your journey instantly.

Can you master the art of strategic train management and forge the ultimate magical battalion? Pre-register for MageTrain, launching April 8th, via the links below. Looking for something to play while you wait? Check out our list of the best roguelikes available on iOS now!
