While many fans believed that Patch 7 would mark the final major update for Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios has exciting news: another substantial update is slated for release in 2025. This upcoming patch promises to enhance the gaming experience with features such as crossplay support and a photo mode. Perhaps most thrilling of all, it introduces 12 new subclasses, each offering unique mechanics that promise to deepen the strategic gameplay that fans love.
Details about four of these subclasses have already been shared, and now we’re diving into the remaining ones: Oath of the Crown Paladin, Arcane Archer, Drunken Master Monk, and Swarmkeeper Ranger.
The Oath of the Crown Paladin upholds justice and order, placing the welfare of society at the forefront. This subclass wields the powerful Divine Devotion ability, which not only absorbs incoming damage directed at allies but also restores their health in the process, making it an invaluable asset in any party.
The Arcane Archer combines martial prowess with arcane magic in a unique way. Their enchanted arrows can blind, weaken, or even exile enemies to the Feywild until the next turn. What's more, if an arrow misses its intended target, the Arcane Archer can adjust its flight path to strike another enemy, ensuring no shot is wasted.
The Drunken Master Monk brings a unique twist to combat by incorporating alcohol into their fighting techniques. A signature move intoxicates foes, leaving them disoriented while simultaneously boosting the monk’s own abilities. Using Instant Sobriety on an intoxicated target deals both physical and mental damage, providing a versatile combat strategy.
Finally, the Swarmkeeper Ranger harnesses the power of nature by forming alliances with swarms of creatures. These swarms not only shield the ranger from harm but also assist with teleportation. In combat, the Swarmkeeper can deploy three types of swarms: electric jellyfish clusters, blinding moth clouds, and stinging bee legions that can knock back enemies who fail a strength check by 4.5 meters, adding a dynamic layer to their combat capabilities.
This update is poised to reinvigorate Baldur's Gate 3 with new ways to play and strategize, keeping the game fresh and engaging for its dedicated fanbase.
