Warhorse Studios confirms: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be DRM-free!
Following online speculation, Warhorse Studios has definitively stated that their upcoming medieval RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), will launch without any Digital Rights Management (DRM) system whatsoever. This includes Denuvo, a popular (and often controversial) anti-piracy technology.
Warhorse PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, addressed the rumors directly during a recent Twitch stream, clarifying that any previous suggestions to the contrary were misinformation. He appealed to fans to cease inquiries about DRM, emphasizing that only official announcements from Warhorse should be considered accurate.
"KCD 2 will not have Denuvo, or any DRM at all," Stolz-Zwilling stated. "We never confirmed otherwise. There was some miscommunication, but the final decision is DRM-free."
The absence of DRM is welcome news to many gamers who often cite performance issues and negative user experiences associated with such technologies. Denuvo, in particular, has been a frequent target of criticism. While intended to combat piracy, some players report performance problems and incompatibility issues. Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has acknowledged this negative perception, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set to release in February 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game continues the story of Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice, in medieval Bohemia. Players who contributed $200 or more to the Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
