Ticket to Ride takes players on a virtual rail journey across Japan with its newest expansion. Marmalade Game Studio and Asmodee Entertainment have released the Japan Expansion for the digital adaptation of the classic board game.
Help Build the Train Network
For the first time, the Japan map from the physical game is available on digital platforms, but with a fresh twist. You're not solely focused on building your own rail empire. Instead, you contribute to constructing a shared national Bullet Train network that all players can utilize.
The gameplay introduces a cooperative element. While you might attempt to let others do the heavy lifting to maximize your own score, the game features a built-in karma system. Neglect your Bullet Train responsibilities and you'll face a 20-point penalty when final scores are tallied. This means you'll need to be somewhat helpful, even if you're plotting against your friends later on.
The Japan Expansion also introduces two new characters. One is travel blogger Nakanishi Kimiko, who appears to be enjoying the festival scene with her dog. The other is Moriyama Isamu, a *gyōji* or sumo referee, who adds a layer of Japan's historical culture, bringing local personality beyond just trains and tracks.
Ticket to Ride Has Upgraded Trains with the Japan Expansion
Your train collection receives a modest upgrade with two new engines and two carriages. The Ichi Eki Saki train comes with the Tsuki Sleeper carriage for more leisurely travel. Meanwhile, the Isogaba Maware train is paired with the speedy and efficient Hayai carriage.
With its seasonal aesthetics, the Japan map offers a particularly pleasing visual experience in spring. The Japan Expansion is available for download now, offering a new way to experience Ticket to Ride. You can find the game on the Google Play Store.
