With a new Wonder Woman film in development, speculation swirls around James Gunn’s choice to succeed Gal Gadot as the iconic superhero in the revamped DC Universe.
Fans have been closely watching Gunn’s social media activity, particularly his follows, fueling rumors about Adria Arjona as a potential Wonder Woman after spotting his Instagram connection with the actress.
In a recent interview, Gunn dismissed the weight of his social media actions but left fans intrigued with a comment that has only amplified the buzz.

In a chat with Extra, Gunn was pressed on whether following a prominent actress on social media hints at her casting as Wonder Woman. He quipped, “50% chance.”
Gunn specifically mentioned Adria Arjona, the actress Extra was clearly referencing. Known for roles like Dorothy Gale in Emerald City, Anathema Device in Good Omens, and Bix Caleen in Andor, Arjona is now at the center of fan speculation for Wonder Woman after Gunn’s Instagram follow came to light.
Gunn clarified that he followed Arjona after collaborating on the 2016 thriller The Belko Experiment, urging fans not to overanalyze the move. Yet, he added that Arjona “would make an excellent Wonder Woman,” a remark that suggests she’s at least on his radar.

Gunn’s full statement reads:
“I followed Adria Arjona on Instagram, and everyone jumped to, ‘He followed her, so she’s Wonder Woman! She’s definitely Wonder Woman!’
“She’d make a fantastic Wonder Woman, no doubt. But we worked together on a film seven years ago. We’ve been friends since then. I followed her back then, not recently. People just pick up on these things constantly.”
Does this confirm Arjona as the next Wonder Woman? Gunn’s comments have only stoked the rumors, though DC Studios has yet to make an official announcement.
What’s certain is that the DCU is gearing up with Superman this month, followed by Peacemaker Season 2 in August, and Supergirl and Clayface in 2026. Wonder Woman’s release date remains unconfirmed.
