Genshin Impact 5.5: Varesa or Xiao - Who to Pull?

Author : David Apr 16,2025

In *Genshin Impact* Version 5.5, set to launch on March 26, two new characters, Varesa and Iansan, are introduced. Iansan is a 4-Star Electro Polearm, while Varesa is a 5-Star Electro Catalyst. The Version 5.5 livestream highlighted both characters, but Varesa's kit particularly caught attention due to its similarities to Xiao's playstyle.

How Is Varesa’s Playstyle Similar to Xiao’s in Genshin Impact?

Varesa's kit is intriguing and unique, especially with her Charged Attacks. She launches herself into the air, enabling Plunging Attacks and generating Nightsoul Points, a mechanic tied to her Natlan origin. This Charged Attack is central to her gameplay strategy.

Her Elemental Skill, Riding the Night-Rainbow, transforms her into a luchador pro wrestler, rushing forward to deal Electro DMG. Post-skill, her Normal Attacks convert to Plunging Attacks without stamina consumption, echoing Xiao's playstyle during his Elemental Burst, Bane of All Evil, which enhances his jumping capability for consecutive Plunging Attacks.

Varesa can enter a powerful state called Fiery Passion after accumulating enough Plunging Attacks and filling her Nightsoul Meter. This state boosts her attacks and Burst, emphasizing the importance of Plunging Attacks in her gameplay.

Should You Stick to Xiao or Pull for Varesa in Genshin Impact?

The key difference between Xiao and Varesa lies in their Plunging Attack mechanics. Xiao depends on his Elemental Burst for consecutive Plunging Attacks, whereas Varesa can start them with Charged Attacks, enabling her to enter a more potent state and maintain Plunging Attacks.

If you enjoy Xiao's playstyle and seek a similar yet distinct experience, Varesa is worth considering. Her independence from Elemental Burst for Plunging Attacks is a significant advantage. She synergizes well with other Natlan characters, leveraging Nightsoul's Blessing.

However, Xianyun, a top support for Plunging Attack users like Xiao, will also be available during *Genshin Impact* 5.5 (Phase I). If you already own Xiao and lack Xianyun, her banner might be more appealing. Otherwise, Varesa offers a fresh yet familiar option.

Genshin Impact is available to play now.
