Fortnite Free for Epic Games Store Users

Escape Academy is the Epic Games Store's free game offering for January 16th, 2025. This escape-room style puzzle game is the fourth free title offered by EGS in 2025 and boasts the highest OpenCritic score of any EGS freebie so far this year.

Epic Games Store users have a week, until January 23rd, to claim their free copy of Escape Academy.

Developed by Coin Crew Games, Escape Academy challenges players to hone their escape room skills as students at the titular academy, training to become "escape room masters." Originally released in July 2022 for PC and consoles, this acclaimed title is returning to the EGS as a free offering, replacing Turmoil.

A Repeat Freebie, But Better!

While Escape Academy was previously a free EGS game on January 1st, 2024, this giveaway marks its first full-week availability on the platform. This timing is particularly advantageous for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, as the game is slated to leave the service on January 15th after an 18-month run.

Epic Games Store's January 2025 Free Games:

  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance (January 1st)
  • Hell Let Loose (January 2nd – 9th)
  • Turmoil (January 9th – 16th)
  • Escape Academy (January 16th – 23rd)

Escape Academy's "Strong" rating on OpenCritic (80 average score, 88% recommendation rate) underscores its quality. Positive player reviews on Steam and high ratings on PlayStation and Xbox stores further cement its appeal. The game offers both solo and engaging online/split-screen multiplayer, widely praised as one of the best co-op puzzle experiences recently.

This marks the fourth free game offered by the Epic Games Store in 2025. The announcement of the fifth free game is expected on January 16th, coinciding with Escape Academy's release. Players enjoying the base game can also purchase two DLC packs, "Escape From Anti-Escape Island" and "Escape From the Past," individually for $9.99 or together as a Season Pass for $14.99.
