PlayStation enthusiasts can breathe easy knowing that FF7 Remake Part 3 will indeed be available on the PS5. In a reassuring statement during an interview with 4Gamer on January 23, 2025, both producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed the platform for the game's release. Addressing concerns about the shifting platforms of previous entries, Kitase firmly stated, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)."

As the PS5 continues its journey through its lifecycle, there's speculation about the FF7 Remake trilogy potentially making its way to the next PlayStation console. However, details about the PS6 remain scarce.

FF7 Remake Part 3 Release Date

While Square Enix has kept the release date under wraps, there's optimism surrounding the development of FF7 Remake Part 3. The project reportedly kicked off alongside Part 2, with full production accelerating post the February 2024 release of FF7 Rebirth. Leveraging assets from the previous games and a finalized story draft, the game's completion might be on the horizon.

In a recent update to Famitsu on January 23, 2025, Hamaguchi shared positive news about the development: "It’s going very well. We started working on the third game right after FFVII Rebirth ended, and we have a build that will confirm our game's direction by the end of 2024. We've been working towards that goal since the beginning of this year without any delays, so we hope you will look forward to it."

Kitase also expressed satisfaction with the story's conclusion, stating, "At least I'm very satisfied with it, so I'm sure it will be a conclusion that will satisfy the fans as well."

FF7 Remake Part 3 Will Allegedly Be a Timed Exclusive Game

Although a specific release date remains undisclosed, a report from the Washington Post dated March 6, 2024, revealed that PlayStation has secured timed exclusivity for the FF7 Remake trilogy. This means FF7 Remake Part 3 will initially be available only on PS5 before eventually making its way to other platforms.

The pattern is familiar: FF7 Remake (2020) was exclusive to PS4 for a year before hitting PC via Epic Games Store and Steam. FF7 Remake Intergrade, an enhanced version of the first game, enjoyed six months of PS5 exclusivity before its PC release. FF7 Rebirth followed suit, with its PC version launching on January 23, 2025, after a period of exclusivity on PS5 starting in February 2024.

Following this trend, FF7 Remake Part 3 is expected to launch exclusively on PS5 for a limited time before broadening its availability to other platforms.

Square Enix Multi-Platform Strategy Amidst Declining Sales

Despite the acclaim received by the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix reported a decline in HD title sales in their financial results on March 31, 2024. Titles like FF16, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, and FF7 Rebirth were among the affected games.

The company cited increased development costs, advertising expenses, and higher content valuation losses as reasons for the operating losses. In response, Square Enix has announced plans to "aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy" that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs, aiming to boost sales.

This shift in strategy suggests that more of Square Enix's HD titles could soon appear on Xbox, Switch 2, and other platforms, despite the company's historical ties with PlayStation.
