Dragon Quest 3 Remake: Unlocking the Secrets of the Yellow Orb

The Yellow Orb in Dragon Quest 3 Remake presents a unique challenge. While the steps to obtain it are relatively simple, discovering the starting point can be tricky. This guide will help you navigate this puzzle and acquire the elusive Yellow Orb.

The Yellow Orb is located in Merchantburg, a town initially represented as "???" on the map. Its name is determined by the merchant you hire and leave there. To obtain the orb, you must help this village grow.

Locating Merchantburg (???)

After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg is accessible. With quest markers enabled, you'll find it in the northeast corner of the world map, at the easternmost edge of the eastern continent.

Optimal Timing for Visiting Merchantburg

While orb collection order is flexible, visiting Merchantburg early is recommended. The town requires significant time to grow before yielding the Yellow Orb. Establishing it early allows you to gather other orbs concurrently.

Acquiring the Yellow Orb

  1. Hiring a Merchant: Before heading to Merchantburg, hire a new merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat to keep your new party member safe.

  1. Establishing Merchantburg: In Merchantburg's single building, speak to the old man. He'll require a merchant to found the town; this is where you assign your newly hired merchant. The town's name will then be established.

  2. Merchantburg's Growth:

After establishing the town, continue with other quests (e.g., Purple Orb from Orochi's Lair, Blue Orb from Gaia's Navel). You'll receive notifications prompting you to return to Merchantburg as it grows through five stages. Each visit reveals a slightly larger town, culminating in a large cabaret's construction. On your fourth visit, you'll notice friction between the merchant and townsfolk.

  1. The Yellow Orb's Revelation:

On your fifth and final visit (at night), the merchant will be absent. The townsfolk have revolted, imprisoning him in the house south of his former residence. Speak to the imprisoned merchant to learn the Yellow Orb's location. Return to the merchant's house; a quest marker behind the sofa will indicate the orb's hiding spot.

For most players, the Yellow Orb will be among the last orbs acquired. The other orbs are located at: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
