Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii: A Blend of Serious Drama and Hilarious Mayhem
RGG Studio promises a unique mix of intense drama and comedic chaos in their upcoming title, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. This latest installment will push the boundaries of reality while delivering a compelling "manly drama," according to the developers.
A Serious Side to Majima
While the Like a Dragon series is renowned for its humor, particularly Majima's comedic antics, director Masayoshi Yokoyama reveals a "more serious" side to Majima in this iteration, especially at the story's outset.
Producer Ryosuke Horii emphasizes the core "manly drama," focusing on Majima's passionate pursuit of his goals and the bonds he forms throughout his wild adventure. He clarifies, "The humor isn't the main focus – there's a serious, dramatic core. Of course, there are crazy detours, but it's ultimately a straightforward story about a passionate man."
Horii highlights Majima's unique qualities, distinct from series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu. He explains the decision to push the boundaries of reality further with Majima: "If we didn't leverage that, there'd be no point in making Majima the protagonist. We blurred the lines of reality to offer players diverse, rich action...striking a balance between the pirate elements, Majima's personality, and the core Like a Dragon feel was challenging."
The team aimed for a compelling balance of realism and over-the-top action, avoiding a mundane experience. Their goal was to create gameplay that's "wilder, while maintaining a serious and compelling narrative."
Majima's Maji Festival
To celebrate the game's launch, RGG Studio is hosting Majima's Maji Festival in six Japanese cities. The tour, which began December 1st, 2024 in Sapporo, concludes in Nagoya (January 18th) and Tokyo (January 25th).
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, starring Goro Majima, promises an unforgettable modern-day pirate adventure with thrilling combat, naval battles, a vibrant cast, and a captivating story.
