Midnight Society, the game studio co-founded by streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its anticipated FPS game, Deadrop. In a post on X, the studio shared, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." They also reached out to the gaming community, asking if any studios are hiring and could offer employment opportunities to their team members.
Founded by Beahm, alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo from the Call of Duty and Halo franchises, Midnight Society set out to create Deadrop, a free-to-play FPS that would leverage the team's extensive expertise. Initially targeting a 2024 release, the project unfortunately missed its deadline.

Midnight Society parted ways with Beahm in 2024 following revelations that the streamer had exchanged messages with a minor via Twitch's Whispers feature, some of which were deemed inappropriate. Despite the separation, the studio continued to work on Deadrop until the decision to shut down this year.
Set in a fictional universe where "the 80s never ended," Deadrop featured characters donning Daft Punk-inspired helmets and armed with a mix of guns and swords. The gameplay was planned as a PvPvE style extraction shooter, blending competitive and cooperative elements in a unique setting.
Midnight Society's closure adds to the growing list of studios facing challenges in the current gaming industry climate, which has also impacted companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, Phoenix Labs, and others. The industry continues to navigate these turbulent times, with many studios and developers feeling the strain.
