Destiny 1 Gets Surprising Update Seven Years Later

A Festive Surprise: Unexpected Decorations Light Up Destiny 1's Tower

Seven years after its initial release, Destiny's iconic Tower social space has received a mysterious, unannounced update featuring festive lights and decorations. This unexpected addition has captivated players, sparking speculation and excitement within the community.

The original Destiny, though still accessible, largely faded into the background with the 2017 launch of Destiny 2. While Bungie has consistently added legacy content from Destiny 1 into its sequel—including popular raids and exotic weapons—this spontaneous Tower update is a unique event.

The discovery, reported on January 5th, showcased Ghost-shaped lights reminiscent of past seasonal events like The Dawning. However, unlike previous events, the Tower lacked its usual snowy ambiance and featured unique banners, with no accompanying quests or in-game announcements.

A Forgotten Event?

The lack of official communication from Bungie has fueled fan theories. Reddit users, including Breshi, pointed towards a canceled event, "Days of the Dawning," originally planned for 2016. Unused assets from this scrapped event bear a striking resemblance to the current Tower decorations, leading many to believe a forgotten schedule date triggered the unexpected update. Bungie likely anticipated Destiny 1's inactivity by this point, scheduling the event's removal at a later date.

As of now, Bungie remains silent on the matter. The year 2017 marked a significant shift for the franchise, with all live events transitioning to Destiny 2. This unplanned festive update offers a nostalgic surprise for players, a fleeting moment of unexpected joy before Bungie potentially removes the decorations. For now, players can enjoy this unexpected, albeit temporary, festive makeover of the original Destiny Tower.
