Doom Slayers Collection Rumored for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Return

The Doom Slayers Collection, a compilation featuring four iconic Doom games, may be making a comeback on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The collection, which was delisted in 2024, has recently received ESRB ratings for these platforms, hinting at a potential re-release. The ESRB listings notably omit the Nintendo Switch and last-generation consoles, suggesting the return will be limited to current-gen systems.

The 1993 original Doom revolutionized the first-person shooter genre, introducing groundbreaking features like 3D graphics and multiplayer capabilities. Its impact on gaming is undeniable, solidifying its place in video game history. This legacy contributes to the anticipation surrounding the collection's potential return. Interestingly, a recent ESRB rating for Doom 64 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S further fuels speculation, as Doom 64 was included with physical copies of the Doom Slayers Collection.

The Doom Slayers Collection, initially launched in 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, includes:

  • Doom
  • Doom II
  • Doom III
  • Doom (2016)

This potential re-release aligns with past practices from both Bethesda and id Software. Similar to the previous delisting and re-release of Doom and Doom II as a combined package, this strategy appears consistent. Furthermore, id Software has a history of porting its titles to current-gen consoles, as seen with Quake II.

Beyond the potential return of the Doom Slayers Collection, fans can look forward to Doom: The Dark Ages, a highly anticipated prequel set for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025. This new entry promises a unique medieval setting, offering a fresh perspective on the established sci-fi franchise.
