"Cujo Gets a New Life on Netflix: Stephen King's Classic Reimagined"

In the ever-revolving cycle of "here comes a new remake" news—or, if you're more of an optimist, "here comes another Stephen King movie" news—a brand new adaptation of Cujo is ready to sink its teeth into audiences. Netflix is poised to produce a fresh film version of Stephen King's chilling tale, according to Deadline. The project has already enlisted Vertigo Entertainment founder and producer Roy Lee, though it's still in its infancy. No writers, directors, or cast members have been attached to the film yet, indicating that we're in the very early stages of development.

Stephen King's novel Cujo was first published in 1981 and swiftly adapted into a cult classic horror film in 1983, penned by Don Carlos Dunaway and Barbara Turner, and directed by Lewis Teague. The gripping story revolves around a determined mother, portrayed by Dee Wallace, who faces a harrowing ordeal to protect her young son from a rabid dog. The narrative intensifies as the duo finds themselves trapped in a car with a dead engine, forced to fend off Cujo—a once-gentle dog turned deadly after being bitten by a rabid bat—as they battle both the beast and the looming threat of heatstroke.

Recently, there has been a notable resurgence of King adaptations. Oz Perkins' take on King's short story The Monkey premiered in February, and fans have much to look forward to this year, including Glen Powell's version of The Running Man and JT Mollner's adaptation of The Long Walk, both produced by Lee and Vertigo Entertainment. Additionally, HBO is developing the IT prequel series Welcome to Derry. The iconic Carrie, another Stephen King classic, is set to be reimagined as an eight-episode series on Prime Video, helmed by horror maestro Mike Flanagan.

Stephen King enthusiasts have been treated to a feast of adaptations lately, and with Cujo joining the lineup, the gourmet offerings just keep coming.
