The acclaimed series *Shōgun*, which swept 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for an eagerly anticipated second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis, who portrayed the pilot John Blackthorn in the first season, will reprise his role and step into the position of co-executive producer for Season 2.
Lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada, who committed to Season 2 last May following the show's renewal — despite its initial limited series format — has been promoted to executive producer, building on his role from the first season. Production for the new season is slated to start in January 2026 and will take place in Vancouver, the same location where the original series was filmed.
FX has announced that the second season will serve as "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which adapted James Clavell's novel. The network elaborated on the connection between the two seasons, stating:
"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (played by Sanada) battled for survival as his adversaries within the Council of Regents banded together against him. The arrival of a mysterious European ship, with its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis), provided Toranaga with critical strategic insights that shifted the balance of power in his favor, ultimately leading to victory in a pivotal civil war.
"Season 2 of *Shōgun* is set a decade after the events of the first season and will continue the saga inspired by history, focusing on the intertwined destinies of these two men from vastly different worlds."
While fans eagerly await the new episodes, which are hoped to be released by the end of 2026, all we can do for now is wait and hope for the best.
