How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To begin your romantic journey with Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, you must first break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you'll need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot.
Once you've completed the offering, a dramatic cutscene will unfold where the Mines Priestess warns you to leave or risk being sealed. As your character's health depletes, Caldarus heroically intervenes, taking on his human form and leaving you with the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods. In this new form, you can interact with him daily and give him gifts, just as you would with other romanceable NPCs in Mistria.
After breaking the Fire Seal, Caldarus can only be found at his temple in the Deep Woods. To access this area permanently on your map, you must use the Dragon’s Breath spell.
Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

With the March 2025 update, Caldarus starts with a heart level of six, which is currently the cap. This means there are no additional heart events available for him at the moment, though future updates may bring more.
Currently, you can experience two cutscenes with Caldarus. The first is a dream sequence at the game's start, introducing you to the magic system and game mechanics. The second occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus saves you from being sealed and reveals his human form before retreating to recover in the Deep Woods. Both scenes are part of the natural story progression.
After the update, you can also trigger a special date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival, which takes place on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in Fields of Mistria, allowing you to take any romanceable NPC with a heart level of four or higher on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Since Caldarus starts with six hearts, you can automatically invite him. To do so, gift him a Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet up afterwards to confirm your date. This will initiate a romantic cutscene.
Spoilers ahead!
During the date at the Summit, Caldarus thanks you for the invitation and shares insights on the stars and the Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. You'll have various dialogue options to explore the concept of soul-binding and connections. The conversation delves into deeper themes, with Caldarus mentioning not all connections are joyful and hinting at the need for a villain in every story. He then wonders if you've attended the festival together in a past life before feeling fatigued and inviting you to spend the rest of the evening watching the stars from his temple.
