His inspiring story highlights the power of online support.

Gearbox Makes a Fan's Dream Come True

An Exclusive Borderlands 4 Preview

Borderlands 4 Early Access: A Dream Come TrueCaleb McAlpine's wish to play Borderlands 4 before its release was granted in a remarkable gesture by Gearbox. On November 26th, he detailed his incredible experience on Reddit: a first-class flight to Gearbox's studio, a tour of the facilities, meetings with developers, and, most importantly, a hands-on preview of the highly anticipated game.

"We got to play what they have for Borderlands 4 so far, and it was amazing," Caleb shared, adding that he and a friend were treated to a VIP tour of the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters, located at their hotel, the Omni Frisco Hotel at The Star.

While Caleb remained tight-lipped about specific details of Borderlands 4, he emphasized the unforgettable nature of the experience, expressing gratitude to everyone who helped make it possible.

A Community Rallies Behind a Fan

Borderlands Community Supports Caleb's WishCaleb's journey began on October 24th, 2024, with a heartfelt Reddit post. He shared his cancer diagnosis (a prognosis of 7-12 months, potentially extending to less than two years with successful chemo), and expressed his wish to experience Borderlands 4 before it was too late.

His plea resonated deeply with the Borderlands community. The outpouring of support led to numerous contacts reaching out to Gearbox, urging them to grant Caleb's wish.

Randy Pitchford, Gearbox's CEO, responded swiftly on Twitter (X), initiating contact with Caleb and promising to explore options. Within a month, Gearbox fulfilled this extraordinary request.

A GoFundMe campaign established to support Caleb's medical expenses has also seen a surge in donations, exceeding $12,415 USD. The positive response to his Borderlands 4 experience has further amplified support for his cause.
