The PlayStation Portal has never been discounted before, but now you can snag a great deal on a used one. Amazon Resale, which is essentially a rebranded Amazon Warehouse, currently offers the PlayStation Portal in Used: Like New condition for just $149.88, including shipping. This represents a significant 25% savings off its original retail price of $199. While a Sony warranty might not be included, you still benefit from Amazon's standard 30-day return policy. Given its popularity, we anticipate that this item will sell out quickly.

The PS Portal is Sony's innovative handheld gaming accessory designed for the PS5 console. It resembles an extended split-pad DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen nestled in the middle. It transforms your PS5 into a portable gaming device by streaming games from your console at up to 60fps. The controller retains all the beloved features of the DualSense, such as haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touchscreen that takes the place of the DualSense's touchpad. To use the Portal outside your home, you'll need a very stable and fast internet connection. It's important to note that the PS Portal is not a standalone device; it requires a PS5 to operate.

Excitingly, you no longer need a PS5 to enjoy games on the PS Portal. Sony has recently introduced a feature allowing owners to stream games directly from its PlayStation Now cloud streaming service. This means you can connect the Portal to either your PS5 or Sony’s cloud servers, thanks to new quality-of-life beta updates launched in April. By opting for the cloud service, you gain access to a vast library of over 120 games, including popular titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Keep in mind that you need to subscribe to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, which costs $18 a month—a much more appealing option than the upfront cost of a PS5 and additional game purchases.

While the PlayStation Portal isn't the only way to stream PS5 games over Wi-Fi within your home, it offers a more streamlined experience compared to using the PS Remote Play app on other devices, such as smartphones or the Steam Deck. However, setting up the app can be more complicated, and you'll miss out on some of the DualSense's unique features.

PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy

"The PlayStation Portal has exceeded my expectations in the most delightful way. Initially skeptical, I've grown to appreciate how it outperforms using a phone with an attached controller. It offers a seamless experience and works better than I anticipated. The freedom to play my PS5 games anywhere with decent Wi-Fi is a game-changer, especially when the TV is occupied by family members playing the Switch. However, it's worth noting that the Portal isn't a standalone device and requires a PS5 to function. Its current limitations include the inability to connect to Wi-Fi networks that require a web browser for login and the lack of Bluetooth audio support. Despite these caveats, the PlayStation Portal is the best current solution for PlayStation Remote Play. If not for these issues, it would be a must-have for every PS5 owner who enjoys handheld gaming or competes for the household TV."
