Tarneeb is a card game for two teams, each comprising two players seated opposite each other at a table. A standard 52-card deck is used, and play proceeds counter-clockwise. Each player attempts to predict the number of "Allmat" (tricks) their team will win in a round.
The player who wins the bid to declare "Tarneeb" throws a type of paper onto the floor. Other players must then throw the same type of paper. The first player to successfully match the paper type wins the "Bamh." If a player doesn't possess the required paper type, they forfeit their chance to declare "Tarneeb." "Tarneeb" papers are considered superior to other paper types; the player who throws the strongest "Tarneeb" paper wins, unless another player throws an even stronger one.
The round ends when all players have played their hands. Points are tallied. A bidding team only scores points if they achieve their predicted number of "Allmat" or more. If successful, they add the number of "Allmat" won to their score; the opposing team receives no points. If unsuccessful, the number of "Allmat" won by the opposing team is added to their score, and the bidding team's score is reduced by the number of "Allmat" they failed to achieve.
If a team wins 13 tricks without bidding for 13, 16 points are added to their score. If they bid for and win 13 tricks, 26 points are added. Conversely, if a team bids for 13 tricks and fails, 16 points are deducted from their score.
The game concludes when one team reaches a total score of 41 or more points; that team is declared the winner.
