Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana presents players with a series of challenging boss battles, and Dularn, The Creeping Shadow, marks the first significant hurdle. As the initial boss, Dularn can be a daunting challenge, often requiring multiple attempts to conquer. However, once players grasp his mechanics, the fight can become manageable and even brief.
How to Beat Dularn in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana
At the onset of the battle, Dularn surrounds himself with a spherical barrier, rendering him invulnerable to attacks. The key during this phase is survival—players must endure Dularn's onslaught until the barrier dissipates. Once it does, players have a window to inflict substantial damage. Dularn's health varies with the chosen difficulty level, so players struggling with the fight can consider backtracking for more preparation, though defeating him is mandatory to progress.
It's crucial to avoid contact with Dularn while his barrier is active, as touching him will cause damage. Recklessly attacking him during this phase will only lead to defeat.
Dularn's Sword Attacks
Dularn employs multiple sword-based attacks, each with distinct patterns that players need to recognize and evade:
- Swords Above: Dularn summons swords that hover above him before striking directly at the player.
- X-Shape Swords: He forms an X with the swords, which then home in on the player.
- Straight Line Thrust: A line of swords is thrust directly at the player.
To handle these homing projectiles, players should run in wide circles around Dularn during his invulnerable phase. This strategy helps dodge the initial sword strikes. Jumping can serve as an additional evasion tactic, especially for the X-shaped and straight-line attacks. Once the barrier falls, Dularn becomes vulnerable to sword attacks, but he will teleport away after taking damage. Keep your distance when he reappears to avoid damage from his reforming barrier.
Dularn's Wave Blasts
Dularn also unleashes two types of wave blasts:
Fireballs
Players can navigate through these by weaving between the fireballs or jumping over them. Combining movement and jumping is key to avoiding damage.
Arching Slash
This large blue slash leaves no gaps for evasion, requiring players to jump over it. These wave attacks often signal an opportunity to attack Dularn, as they occur close to his vulnerable phases.
Understanding Dularn's attack patterns is more important than grinding levels; this knowledge is essential for overcoming the fight efficiently.
