Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 released its highly anticipated Siege Mode update last week. While fans are enjoying the new content, frequent crashes and disconnections have impacted the experience.
Siege Mode introduces a horde-style gameplay format to Space Marine 2, challenging teams of three players to battle increasingly difficult waves of Tyranid and Chaos enemies in exchange for exclusive rewards.
Player response to Siege Mode and the accompanying Patch 8 has been positive overall. On Steam, where player statistics are publicly available, Space Marine 2 has seen a notable rise in player numbers. However, ongoing connectivity issues are disrupting matches, especially during later waves.
As recently as July 2, players continued to report frustrations. “I feel incredibly cheated,” expressed a frustrated Justusowesme on the Space Marine subreddit.
“I just spent nearly three hours in a Siege match. FINALLY found some capable teammates who knew their roles. It was the most epic gaming experience I’ve had in a long time. I was excited to earn the rewards and feel that sense of accomplishment after finally finishing it. BUT NO—right during the final round before evacuation, the servers crashed. NO MONEY, NO EXP, NO SKINS, and not even a satisfying conclusion to the glorious battle my brothers and I fought. Sure, I had fun, but effectively, I lost almost three hours of progress. It’s incredibly disheartening; I just can’t believe it…
“To anyone in charge, I know you’re working hard to fix this, and probably moving quickly too... BUT STILL, BY THE EMPEROR, WHAT IN THE WARP HAPPENED.”

In response, developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment have launched the 8.1 hotfix, now available on all platforms. This update addresses multiple crash and connection problems, plus a bug that blocked rewards for completing 25 waves in Siege Mode.
The goal is for this hotfix to resolve the Siege Mode issues reported by players like Justusowesme, much like a Space Marine crushing a xenos threat underfoot—though it's still early to confirm its effectiveness.
Looking forward, Space Marine 2 has plenty of exciting content on the horizon. While Patch 9 will focus only on balance adjustments, Patch 10 will bring a new Chaos vs Chaos PvP mode, the Power Axe melee weapon, and the Techmarine class. Get all the details on Space Marine 2 Patch 10 here.
