"Unlocking the Deep Woods: A Guide to Fields of Mistria"

Author : Connor May 06,2025

Since *Fields of Mistria* entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map, but it remained inaccessible until the game's March 2025 update. Here's a detailed guide on how to access the Deep Woods and locate Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*.

How to Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

To unlock the Deep Woods, you need to break the Fire Seal and utilize the new Dragon’s Breath spell to clear the vines blocking the entrance. Start by gathering four items to place on the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar at Floor 60 in the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three can be found between floors 50 and 59, while the Sealing Scroll requires teamwork with Juniper and Balor.

To help Balor procure the Sealing Scroll, leave the following items in the bin by his wagon:

  • x10 Silver Ingots
  • x10 Rubies
  • x10 Sapphires
  • x10 Emeralds

After fulfilling these requirements, talk to Balor, and he’ll inform you that the item will be ready the next day. Once you have the scroll, complete the offering at the altar.

Typically, breaking magic seals results in a farewell from the mysterious mines Priestess, unlocking a new biome. However, this time, the Priestess warns you to leave before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. As your health depletes, Caldarus appears in his human form, rescuing you and retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to recover.

Caldarus leaves you with the Dragon’s Breath spell, which you can use to burn through the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance. Equip the spell from the pause menu and activate it in front of the entrance to unlock the Deep Woods permanently, as well as other hidden areas on the map.

How to Find Caldarus

After breaking the Fire Seal, you can locate Caldarus inside his temple in the Deep Woods. The temple is situated north of the Eastern Road on your map. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to access this area, and you’ll find Caldarus’ location marked on your map, just like other NPCs. He awaits you in the northeast corner of the Deep Woods.

To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to chop down the stump blocking your path. Continue north until you reach the temple where Caldarus resides.

Once the Deep Woods are unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to the area for just 10 Essence, saving you time compared to traveling on foot or horseback. You can also interact with Caldarus through his statue in spirit.
